Job Purpose: The Customs and Trade Compliance Officer ensures the company adheres to international trade regulations, customs laws, and import/export requirements. This role minimizes legal and financial risks by managing documentation, audits, and compliance programs while optimizing cross-border trade efficiency.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with local and international trade laws (SARS Customs Act, Incoterms®, WTO regulations).
Classify products using HS (Harmonized System) codes and tariff schedules.
Stay updated on trade agreements (AfCFTA, SACU, AGOA) impacting imports/exports.
2. Documentation & Audits
Prepare and review customs documentation (bills of lading, certificates of origin, import/export permits).
Conduct internal compliance audits and address discrepancies.
Liaise with SARS (South African Revenue Service) and other regulatory bodies.
