The Logistics Coordinator is responsible for planning, organizing, and monitoring the movement of goods to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery. This role serves as the critical link between suppliers, transporters, warehouses, and customers, coordinating all logistics activities while maintaining accurate records and resolving shipment issues.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Transportation Coordination
Schedule and track inbound/outbound shipments (road, air, sea).
Book freight services and negotiate rates with carriers.
Optimize routes to reduce costs and improve delivery times.
2. Documentation & Compliance
Prepare shipping documents (bills of lading, customs forms, invoices).
Ensure compliance with transport regulations (e.g., cross-border requirements in South Africa).
Maintain records for audits and reporting.
3. Warehouse & Inventory Liaison
Coordinate with warehouse teams for loading/unloading schedules.
Monitor stock levels and prioritize urgent shipments.
Report discrepancies in shipments (damages, shortages).
4. Customer & Supplier Communication
Provide real-time updates to clients on shipment status.
Resolve delivery delays or issues with suppliers/carriers.
Handle returns and reverse logistics processes.
5. Data Management & Reporting
Update logistics software (TMS, ERP) with shipment details.
Generate reports on freight costs, on-time delivery, and carrier performance.
Analyze data to identify inefficiencies.
Required Skills & Competencies:
Technical Skills
✔ Logistics Software – Proficiency in TMS (Transport Management Systems), ERP, or WMS.
✔ Freight Knowledge – Understanding of Incoterms, customs procedures, and carrier networks.
✔ Documentation – Experience with bills of lading, import/export paperwork.
✔ Microsoft Office – Advanced Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP) for tracking and reporting.
Soft Skills
✔ Organizational Skills – Managing multiple shipments and deadlines.
✔ Problem-Solving – Resolving delays, damages, or misrouted freight.
✔ Communication – Clear updates to drivers, suppliers, and customers.
✔ Attention to Detail – Accurate data entry and documentation.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
Diploma/Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or Business Administration .
Experience:
2–3 years in logistics coordination, freight forwarding, or transport planning .
Experience with e-commerce, retail, or FMCG logistics is a plus.
Familiarity with last-mile delivery and cross-border logistics (e.g., SACU/SADC trade).
