Last Mile Delivery Specialist

Job Purpose:
The Last Mile Delivery Specialist is responsible for optimizing the final stage of the delivery process, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and customer-centric transportation of goods from distribution centers to end consumers. This role focuses on route planning, carrier management, and technology integration to enhance delivery efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Delivery Operations Management
  • Plan and optimize daily delivery routes using GPS and route optimization software.
  • Coordinate with drivers, third-party carriers, and gig workers to ensure on-time deliveries.
  • Monitor real-time delivery tracking and resolve delays or failed deliveries.
2. Customer Experience & Communication
  • Implement customer notification systems (SMS, email, app alerts) for delivery updates.
  • Handle delivery exceptions (missed deliveries, returns, damages) and ensure swift resolution.
  • Gather customer feedback to improve service quality.
3. Cost & Efficiency Optimization
  • Negotiate rates with last-mile carriers (independent drivers, courier services).
  • Reduce failed delivery attempts through accurate address verification and time-window scheduling.
  • Analyze delivery KPIs (cost per delivery, on-time rate, first-attempt success rate).
4. Technology & Innovation
  • Utilize last-mile delivery platforms (Onfleet, Routific, Bringg).
  • Implement contactless delivery solutions (e-signatures, locker pickups).
  • Explore emerging tech (drones, autonomous vehicles, e-bikes) for urban deliveries.
5. Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure adherence to traffic laws, vehicle safety standards, and labor regulations.
  • Train drivers on safe driving practices and customer service protocols.
  • Maintain delivery audit logs for compliance and reporting.

Required Skills & Competencies:
Technical Skills
 Route Optimization Tools – Onfleet, OptimoRoute, Google Maps API
 Last-Mile Delivery Platforms 
 Data Analytics – Excel (pivot tables), Power BI (for delivery performance dashboards)
 Fleet Management – Telematics, fuel efficiency tracking

Soft Skills
 Problem-Solving – Addressing delivery bottlenecks in real time
 Customer-Centric Mindset – Balancing speed with service quality
 Communication – Liaising between drivers, customers, and warehouse teams
 Adaptability – Adjusting to traffic, weather, or demand fluctuations

Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
  • Diploma/Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Business Administration
  • Certifications (Preferred):
    • Certified Last Mile Professional (CLMP)
    • Six Sigma (For process improvement)
Experience:
  • 3+ years in last-mile delivery, courier management, or e-commerce logistics.
  • Experience with crowdsourced delivery models (UberRush, DoorDash) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with urban logistics challenges (parking, traffic, zoning).
