Job Purpose The Instrumentation & Control Engineer designs, maintains, and optimizes industrial control systems (DCS, PLC, SCADA) and field instrumentation to ensure safe, efficient, and automated process operations. The role integrates electrical, electronic, and software engineering to monitor and control critical parameters (pressure, temperature, flow) in hazardous environments.
Key Responsibilities 1. Control System Design & Implementation
Design P&IDs, loop diagrams, and control narratives for process plants.
Configure DCS (Distributed Control Systems) like Honeywell Experion/Yokogawa Centum VP.
Program PLCs (Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley, Schneider) for automated processes.
2. Instrumentation Engineering
Specify and calibrate field instruments:
Flowmeters (Coriolis, Ultrasonic)
Control Valves (Fisher, Masoneilan)
Analyzers (pH, gas chromatographs)
Implement SIL (Safety Integrity Level) systems per IEC 61511.
3. System Integration & Troubleshooting
Integrate SCADA systems (Ignition, WinCC, iFix) with PLCs/DCS.
Diagnose 4-20mA/HART/Foundation Fieldbus communication faults.
Conduct loop checks and FAT/SAT (Factory/Site Acceptance Tests).
4. Safety & Compliance
Ensure compliance with SANS 10108 (Explosive Atmospheres) and IEC 60079 (ATEX).
Perform HAZOP/LOPA studies for control system safety.
Maintain calibration records for ISO 9001 audits.
5. Project Execution
Manage control system upgrades (migration from legacy to modern DCS).
Supervise E&I contractors during plant shutdowns.
Optimize PID tuning for process efficiency.
Required Qualifications
BEng/BTech in Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic Engineering.
Professional Registration: ECSA PrEng/PrTechEng (advantageous).
Certifications:
SIL Certification (TÜV Rheinland).
HART/Fieldbus Commissioning.
Project Management (PMP/PRINCE2).

Control Systems:

OPC UA/DA communication protocols.
