Chartered Accountant CA(SA)

Job Purpose
The Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) is responsible for ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and strategic financial decision-making within an organization. The role involves financial reporting, auditing, tax planning, risk management, and advisory services while leveraging modern accounting technologies.

Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Prepare and review annual financial statements (AFS) in compliance with IFRS and Companies Act requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to SARS (South African Revenue Service) tax regulations (VAT, PAYE, Income Tax).
  • Manage statutory audits and liaise with external auditors (e.g., Big Four firms).
2. Auditing & Assurance
  • Conduct internal and external audits to assess financial controls and risk exposure.
  • Perform forensic accounting investigations where required (fraud detection, asset misappropriation).
  • Use data analytics tools (e.g., ACL, IDEA, Power BI) for audit automation.
3. Management Accounting & Strategy
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support business decisions.
  • Analyze financial performance using ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Sage X3, Pastel).
  • Advise management on cost optimization, profitability, and investment strategies.
4. Taxation & Regulatory Compliance
  • Prepare and submit tax returns (ITR14, VAT201, EMP501).
  • Provide tax planning advice (CGT, Dividends Tax, Transfer Pricing).
  • Stay updated on South African tax law changes (Draft Tax Bills, SARS updates).
5. Risk Management & Governance
  • Implement King IV Corporate Governance principles.
  • Assess financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with FSCA (Financial Sector Conduct Authority) and SARB (South African Reserve Bank) regulations.
6. Technology & Automation
  • Utilize AI-driven accounting tools (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, CaseWare).

Technical Skills
 Accounting Standards: IFRS, GRAP (for public sector), Companies Act
 Audit & Assurance: ISA (International Standards on Auditing)
 Taxation: Income Tax Act, VAT Act, Tax Administration Act
 ERP & Accounting Software: SAP, Oracle, Sage, Pastel, Xero
 Data Analytics: Power BI, Tableau, Excel (Advanced), SQL (basic)
 Forensic & Fraud Detection: ACL Analytics, IDEA

Qualifications & Certifications
  • Mandatory:
    • Bachelor of Accounting (BCom Accounting) or equivalent.
    • Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting (PGDA/CTA).
    • Completed SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) Training Contract (Articles) (3 years).
    • Passed SAICA Board Exams (ITC & APC).
